We love turtlenecks for guys. We’ve got a really long story about why we love them and why we set out to make a better one, but for your sake, a lot of this is going to boil down to TL;DR: we make a better turtleneck for guys.
Given our love for the t-neck, we were really curious as to why such an iconic and good-looking garment was seen so infrequently in our day-to-day lives. We understood that at its core, to the average guy, turtlenecks are draped in stigma. We see them on the screen on some of our favorite visionaries, athletes, intellectuals, and entertainers, but it’s not the type of thing we picture ourselves in. And we found that a lot of the turtlenecks we were seeing may look good on the red carpet or in front of camera’s but weren’t really the most logical thing to wear for an average day during our busy lives (they were also usually pretty $$$$). So aside from the stigma, we thought maybe if we made a t-neck that is more suitable for our lives today, we may be able to slowly turn some of the perceptions around t-necks.
In reality, turtlenecks aren’t “in” right now and haven’t been for quite some time, so fashion brands have largely ignored t-necks for quite some time. So we thought there was an opportunity (and really a need!) to make something better. A turtleneck at its core should be extremely comfortable and sleek, as renowned designer Halston put it, “turtlenecks are the most comfortable garment you can wear. They move with the body, and they're flattering too because they accentuate the face and elongate the figure. They make life so easy: you can wear a turtleneck to work and then afterward throw on a jacket, and it becomes very dressy. You can go anywhere you like.”
We didn’t feel like the clunky turtleneck sweaters that brands were offering really fit the bill for what a turtleneck can be. So we set out to make something that was better equipped for our busy lives. We used an extremely soft, stretchy, and breathable fabric that conforms with us through our busy days, and we made it more sleek by using this fabric that naturally clings to the body in a way that produces a more modern slim fit. It’s versatile in it’s look with the ability to be dressed up or down.
So turtlenecks…that’s all we make, and it’s all we will make. We wanted a brand similar to a 1800matress but for turtlenecks, so we called ourselves TRDLNYK. It’s pronounced Truh-del-nick, and it just stands for turtleneck (while also an homage to fancy foreign fashion brands that Americans love to struggle to pronounce). For those wondering, yes it’s also a tribute to the Czech/Hungarian pastry Trdelník.
We'd love to have you join the pack 🤘
